1,267,681. Storage of liquefied gas. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 1 May, 1969, No. 22297/69. Heading F4P. A method of storing liquefied gas comprises displacing water from a stratum 14 by a purge gas, and then introducing liquefied gas. The purge gas is pumped in through wells 18, 22 and water is withdrawn through encircling wells 20 until the purge gas has produced the desired final volume; The liquefied gas is then introduced through wells 18, 22 and the water in the stratum adjacent the storage reservoir freezes and thus seals the reservoir. Alternatively introduction of the liquefied gas may be started when the purge gas has created only part of the desired final volume. Heat from surrounding strata assists vaporization of the liquefied gas. |
