<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply for dry vacuum pumps that can stably supply a current capable of generating a large torque different from a torque in a rated operation from an inverter to a drive motor during a starting process by individually setting an overcurrent setting value for detecting an overload fault according to respective conditions during the rated operation and the starting process, and to provide a method of operating the power supply for dry vacuum pumps. <P>SOLUTION: The power supply for dry vacuum pumps supplies an AC power of a prescribed frequency from the inverter to the drive motor. The inverter includes a function for supplying a current of a prescribed multiple of a rated current to increase a drive torque of the drive motor when starting a dry vacuum pump, and an overcurrent detection/protection function for detecting a fault or a failure of the dry vacuum pump when an output current of the inverter exceeds a prescribed setting current value. The overcurrent detection/protection function sets the setting current value to be an excessive current value exceeding a prescribed overload current value in the starting process of the dry vacuum pump, and sets the setting current value to be a prescribed overload current value at a point in time when the starting process is completed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
