PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool that is improved in chipping resistance and the accuracy of a finished surface by having excellent oxidation resistance and excellent lubricity in the high-speed cutting of a high-hardness material. SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool is configured so that a hard coating layer composed of at least one of a TiN layer, a TiCN layer, and a (Ti, Al) N layer, is formed by vapor deposition on the surface of a tool base body composed of WC cemented carbide, a TiCN-based cermet, and a cBN-based ultra-high pressure sintered material. The outermost surface of the hard coating layer is formed with an amorphous silicon dioxide film having a film thickness of 100-500 nm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
