The method involves providing a cylindrical tool (16) with a rotation axis (18) and a peripheral surface that includes a set of teeth. The tool is rotated around the rotation axis parallel to a feed direction of book blocks (10, 12). The book blocks are aligned in such a manner that a longitudinal axis of an adhesive side runs transverse to the rotation axis and tangential to the periphery surface of the tool. The book blocks are moved in a direction transverse to the rotation axis of the tool. The adhesive side is arranged at a distance from the rotation axis. An independent claim is also included for a book binding device comprising a cylindrical tool.
