PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoprotecting agent for the hair for preventing hair damages, particularly formation of lanthionine, caused by a heat treatment. SOLUTION: The thermoprotecting agent for the hair comprises as a thermoprotecting material at least one selected from the group consisting of a protein hydrolysate, a protein hydrolysate derivative and a polyamino acid, each exhibiting a film-forming property. The thermoprotecting material is preferably a keratin hydrolysate having an average amino acid polymerization degree of 100-500. The protein hydrolysate derivative is preferably a silylated derivative. The content of the protein hydrolysate and/or the protein hydrolysate derivative and/or the polyamino acid in the thermoprotecting agent for the hair is preferably 0.05-20 mass%.
