PURPOSE: A receptacle and an operating method thereof are provided to turn on/off a receptacle connected to an electronic device through a remote control operation. CONSTITUTION: A receptacle comprises: a remote control signal receiving unit(111), a power switching unit(112), a power conversion unit(113), a microcontroller(114), a remote control signal transmission and reception unit(115), a display unit(116) and a running button unit(117). The remote control signal reception unit receives power from the power conversion unit to maintain a driving state of the receptacle. The power switching unit turns on the power supplied to a TV. The power conversion unit inputs direct current to a remote control reception unit and the microcomputer. The remote control signal switching unit operates according to the driving operation of the microcomputer to turn on the power of an electronic device.
