<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a constant-gradation output image by applying gradation formation to an X-ray image. <P>SOLUTION: Based on a pixel value representative of a passing straight through region, that is, a region where an X ray passes straight through an object and on a region which neighbors the pixel that indicates the representative pixel value with a predetermined width along the pixel, the image processing apparatus extracts a region of the object from the original image.
