The method involves providing a customer requested pattern (A), inputting pattern data representing the appearance of a surface into an electronic data processing system. A planar component with a timber surface is provided. The pore structure of timber surface is similar to that of the predetermined type of fine wood. The timber surface is imprinted in an inkjet printing process matched to the pattern data such that the three-dimensional structure of timber surface caused by the pore structure remains partially intact. An independent claim is also included for a component with a real wood surface. |
