PURPOSE: A stereo matching apparatus and a method for the same are provided to obtain improved matching result rather than an existing method. CONSTITUTION: A stereo matching apparatus comprises an image processing unit(104) for performing pre-processing a stereo image which is inputted through a stereo camera, a 3D information restoration part(106), and an image focusing part(108). The 3D information restoration part determines overcast parameter about the pre-processed stereo image, and obtains relation information between the overcast parameter and a camera parameter. The image focusing part decides optimal disparity corresponding to a detected optimal path.
