PURPOSE: A mobile terminal having an image projection function and a control method thereof are provided to drive a light source of a projector module in a power saving state. CONSTITUTION: A projector module(175) is prepared in a main body, and irradiates light emitted from a light source. The projector module projects an image onto a projection surface, and a control unit(180) measures the distance to the projection plane from the main body. If the distance to the projection plane does not belong to the predetermined reference range, the control unit drives the light source in a power saving state.
