PURPOSE: A vacuum cleaner is provided to enable a user to easily confirm the installation state of a dust container because a suction motor is stopped when the dust container is not installed. CONSTITUTION: A vacuum cleaner comprises a cleaner body(10), a dust container(200), a sensor, a moving device, and a controller. The cleaner body has a suction motor. The dust container is separably installed in the cleaner body. The sensor senses the installation state of the dust container. The moving device is moved when the dust container is installed. The controller controls the operation of the suction motor. When the dust container is installed in the cleaner body, the sensor is moved by the moving unit and is contact with the dust container.
