PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for improving Bluetooth performance in a portable terminal are provided to expand a transmission bandwidth of voice data when performing Bluetooth communication connection. CONSTITUTION: When voice data are transmitted through a Bluetooth device, a device connection unit(102) transmits voice data through the connection with an ACL(Asynchronous Connection-Less) lint when transmitting data. The device connection unit includes a data compression unit(104), and the data compression unit maintains continuous and smooth communication connection by changing the compression rate of voice data according to a Bluetooth communication state after performing the connection with the ACL link.
