A bedcover or blanket 1, composed of a "solid state" fabric created from an insulating layer sandwiched between two layers of a thermally conducting fabric, is fitted with an array of thin film Peltier devices 3, wired in parallel, which transfer heat across the insulating layer from one surface of the blanket to the other. A programmable control device 7 and thermostat 6 may be used to control the temperature of the interior as well as the operation of the devices, to minimise power consumption, and may comprise a control to allow the reversal of the DC polarity, changing from a cooling function to a warming function and vice versa. The blanket uses no moving parts, and operates by low voltage DC power, reducing the risks to the user, and increasing the efficiency of the heat transfer. |
