A material for dentures consists of a mixt. of powdered polymer, hardening agents, liquid monomer and natural fibres, pref. animal fibres to imitate small veins. The use of animal fibres avoids irritation of the mucous membranes and palate, together with the poor appearance and natural luminescence of synthetic fibres. The mixt. is preferably formed from powdered polymethyl methacrylate by ball milling with 5-10 mm natural fibres of wool, angora or silk in proportion 1 pt. fibres to 1000 pts. resin. The mixt. is then moulded in the usual way by blending with methyl methacrylate monomer.
|
