PURPOSE: An apparatus for managing communication channel between an application and a smart card in a mobile terminal and a method thereof are provided to effectively manage the establishment of a communication channel. CONSTITUTION: A channel establishment confirmation module(110) counts a channel open time, and compares the channel open time with a predetermined value. A channel establishment request module(120) request a closure of a specific channel using a smart card. A data duplex telephony module(130) transceives data with the application and the smart card. The smart card is a USIM(Universal Subscriber Identity Module) card.
