A display device and its control method are provided to display the function of the display device as a character using sensing unit and light emitting unit. A button unit(10) receives an input from a user, and includes at least one function key provided at one side of a main body casing. A function indicating unit(20) indicates a function of a function key and includes a character formed with a transparent resin. A light emitting unit(30) is positioned on a rear surface of the function indicating unit to illuminate the function indicating unit. A sensing unit(40) outputs a sense signal if a movement within a certain distance from the button unit is sensed. If the sense signal is outputted, a controller(50) turns on the light emitting unit to show the character of the function indicating unit, and if the sense signal is not outputted, the controller turns off the light emitting unit to allow the character to disappear. |
