The device has a protection unit formed of a flexible side membrane (12d) and jaws (15g, 15d) for preventing contact with an electric rail when a train is not located at right of the device. A retraction unit formed of input jaws (16g, 16d) retracts a portion of the protection unit, so as to allow sliding of a conductor pad on a conducting surface i.e. upper surface (4), of an electric rail (3). The side membrane is secured to the rail by support pieces close to lower edge of the membrane. The membrane is made of reinforced elastomer, and the jaws and input jaws are made of polyamide 6.6.
