The invention relates to N-[2-hydroxy-3-(1-piperidinyl)- propoxy]-pyridine-1-oxide-3-carboxamidine or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt and its optically active enantiomers, (R)-(-)-N-[2-hydroxy-3-(1-piperidinyl)-propoxy]-pyridine-1-oxide- 3-carboxamidine and (S)-(+)-N-[2-hydroxy-3-(1-piperidinyl)- propoxy]-pyridine-1-oxide-3-carboxamidine or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and their use. Furthermore, the invention relates to the process for preparation of N-[2-hydroxy- 3-(1-piperidinyl)-propoxy]-pyridine-1-oxide-3-carboxyimidoyl chloride or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt or its optically active enantiomers.
