The method involves providing a semi-active damper with a proportional pressure reducing valve and a proportional traction reducing valve. The pressure reducing valve is opened when predetermined longitudinal speed of a vehicle exceeds to minimize damping in a pressure range while simultaneously activating the traction reducing valve, so that damping is increased in a traction range. The traction reducing valve is provided with an obturator and maintained in a closed state until predetermined damping force (FD) is reached. The body is retained by a prestressed elastic element.
