PURPOSE: An image processing apparatus for adjusting sharpness and an image processing method are provided to efficiently improve the sharpness of the image processing apparatus while preventing the phenomenon satirizing a digital value. CONSTITUTION: Based on the brightness of an image, a gain determination unit(220) determines a gain for compensating the sharpness of an input image. By using a critical value of the brightness which can be displayed, a gain adjustment unit(240) adjusts the determined gain. According as the gain is added to the brightness of the image, the sharpness of the image is compensated.
