Automatic colour change on a shuttle-type embroidery machine comprises guide slides arranged in pairs running forwardly at an angle to each other to a point, in which for each 4:4 pattern, left- and right-hand slide members each running in a slide of two guide slides, are pivotably connected in pairs at the angle between them by connecting levers to a control rail movable in a transverse direction to the working motion of the needles, in such a way that when the control rail moves to the left the left-hand slide member running in one of the guides is brought into the working position while the right-hand slide member in the other guide is brought into the rest position and so that when the control rail moves to the right the motions of the slide members are reversed.
