Polymer foil coatings - consisting of vinylidene chloride co-polymers,talc and wax for wrapping cigarette cartons

The foil, pref. of regenerated cellulose, is coated with a soln. contg. 10-20% solids, consisting of (A) a copolymer contg. 92-96% vinylidene chloride, (B) 0.25 to 1.25 wt.% based on (A), of steatite talc, and (C) 1-7% of paraffin wax. The solvent is subsequently removed, leaving part of the wax on a coherent layer on the outer surface and the remainder dispersed in the coating. The coated foil is suitable for wrapping cigarette cartons. The barrier properties e.g. to water vapour of the foil are improved without detrimental effect on the heat sealing or non-tacky properties.
