Dialysis treatment devices and methods for removing urea from dialysis waste streams are provided. In a general embodiment, the present disclosure provides a dialysis treatment device (2) including a first cell (10) having a first electrodialysis unit (20), a second cell (30) having at least one of a urease compartment (32) and a sorbent compartment (34) and in fluid communication with the first cell (10), and a third cell (40) having a second electrodialysis unit (42) and in fluid communication with the second cell (30).
