The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for notifying Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) capability, and the method includes: a Drift Radio Network Controller (DRNC) receives a radio link setup request message from a Service Radio Network Controller (SRNC), wherein the radio link setup request message carries an MBMS bearer service list cell; the DRNC sends a radio link setup response message to the SRNC, wherein the radio link setup response message indicates whether the DRNC supports MBMS by whether carrying an active MBMS bearer service list cell. The present invention solves the problem that the SRNC is unable to learn whether DRNC cells support MBMS capability and unreasonable radio links are established consequently, and enables the SRNC to learn MBMS capability of DRNC cells so as to make correct decisions to establish radio links fitting the MBMS capability of DRNC cells.
