PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that for mounting a bearing for a drive shaft to a housing for a pump such as a water pump, a good fit achieved between the bearing and the housing is required, and thus the housing is machined after molding to ensure that an aperture is of the correct dimensions to receive the bearing. SOLUTION: In a method of making a pump 10 including a pump housing 12 and a drive shaft 14 mounted for rotation in a bearing 16, at least one engagement formation part 44 is formed on an exterior surface of the bearing 16, and the pump housing 12 is molded using injection molding of polymer to engage with the engagement formation part 44. As a result, rigid engagement between the molded pump housing 12 and the bearing 16 is easily achieved, so that the manufacturing cost can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
