PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating external force which estimates a state of stress and a state of deformation of lining concrete inside a water passage tunnel with high accuracy and predicts the life of the lining concrete with high accuracy. SOLUTION: In this method for estimating the external force acting on the water passage tunnel, a residual difference between an actual measuring line distance being measured and a virtual measuring line distance calculated by a conjugate gradient method is calculated by an evaluation function. The external force acting on the lining concrete satisfying the virtual measuring line distance at which the residual difference calculated from the evaluation function is minimum, and prediction of the life is thereby performed.
