PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent extensive meandering of a metallic strip in the axial direction of conveying rolls resulting in roll-out of the metallic strip from the conveying rolls, inside a continuous heat treating furnace continuously heat-treating the metallic strip while conveying it by the plurality of conveying rolls. SOLUTION: A meandering generation factor giving device 19 is provided at the upstream side of an annealing furnace 14 and gives the meandering generation factor to the metallic strip S, a meandering detector 17 detects the amount of meandering of the metallic strip S generated by the meandering generation factor giving device 19, and on the basis of the detected meandering amount of the metallic strip S, conveying condition of the metallic strip S in the annealing furnace 14 is controlled.
