Disclosed is an electrode active material which is composed of lithium titanate having a spinel structure and capable of maintaining a high charge/discharge capacity with a small specific surface area. Also disclosed are a method for producing the electrode active material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising the electrode active material. The electrode active material is composed of lithium titanium complex oxide having a spinel structure, and the lithium titanium complex oxide contains, in a molar ratio, 5 parts by mole of titanium and more than 4 parts by mole but 4.1 parts by mole or less of lithium and zinc in total.
