The method involves differentiating the fuels in their anti-knock quality and differentiating the exhaust gases formed with the combustion of the fuels from hydrogen to carbon monoxide. The composition value of the fuel mixture is determined from an output signal of a knocking sensor or from a knocking regulation of an internal-combustion engine. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining the composition of a fuel mixture of two different fuels for operating an internal-combustion engine.
