摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the abnormality of a variable valve timing mechanism with higher accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine device sets a simulated instruction cam phase &theta;s based on a viscous influence coefficient N indicating the degree of influence on the responsiveness of the variable valve timing mechanism 150 by the viscosity of an operating oil of the variable valve timing mechanism 150, and on an instruction cam phase &theta;* which is an instruction value of a cam phase of an intake camshaft 129 to a crankshaft 26 (S110-S130), and determines the occurrence of abnormality to the variable valve timing mechanism 150 when a state of the absolute value of deviation between the simulated instruction cam phase &theta;s and an actual cam phase &theta; which is the actual value of the cam phase, being a reference value &theta;ref or more continues for a predetermined time tref or longer (S140-S160). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
