Disclosed is a distributed-arrangement linear motor suited to distributed arrangement of stators. Also disclosed is a method for controlling a distributed-arrangement linear motor. In the disclosed linear motor (1), stators (10, 10B) and a movable element (20) move relative to each other. The stators and the movable element respectively have: a plurality of types of poles (12a, 12b, 12c) (22a, 22b) that act upon each other magnetically; and periodic structures wherein the plurality of types of poles are arranged periodically, in the direction of relative movement, in order by type. The stators are arranged in groups separated in the direction of relative movement, wherein the inter-stator distance (D1, D2) between adjacent stators is less than the length (Lmv) of the movable element. The stator poles comprise coils (11), and the linear motor is provided with a current-control means that controls the current supplied to the coils on the basis of the inter-stator distance between adjacent stators. |
