DEVICE AND METHOD FOR ROASTING LIGNOCELLULOSIC MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a roasted lignocellulosic material in a commercially suitable process.

SOLUTION: The device for roasting a lignocellulosic material comprises a dryer 2 for removing at least a part of moisture contained in the lignocellulosic material; a roasting reactor 5 for generating roasted biomass and roasting gas from the lignocellulosic material operated at pressure between 1 and 50 bar and at a temperature between 100 and 1,000°C; a first recycle loop for recycling the roasting gas back to the roasting reactor; a cooler 29 operated in a substantially oxygen-free environment to cool the roasted biomass; a second recycle loop for recycling inert gas to the cooler and to supply the inert gas to the roasting reactor; and a supply line 13 for supplying the inert gas to add it to the cooler. The inert gas is used as at least a partial medium for transferring heat among the roasting reactor and the cooler.
