PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silencing unit and a silencing unit installation method by which a silencing area can be secured in a wide range, even if a circumference of a device which is a noise source is surrounded by a silencing wall. SOLUTION: The silencing wall 3 is installed so that a gap W between inner faces of coating members 5 facing each other, by setting a sound source position O1 of noise and a sound source position O2 of control sound to centers, may become integer multiples (W) of one half of a peak frequency wave length of noise which is measured beforehand. Thereby, a standing wave of the peak frequency is generated in the silencing wall 3. As an amplitude and a phase of the standing wave are constant, and a horizontal distance from the sound source position O1 of noise to the coating member 5 of front, back, right and left FBLR is the same as that from the sound source position O2 of control sound to the coating member 5 of front, back, right and left FBLR, it is easy to match the phase of the standing wave with that of the control sound, and the silencing area is secured in a wide range, even if the silencing wall 3 surrounds a generator 2.
