PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a civil engineering material for use in raising a bank. SOLUTION: The civil engineering material includes a plate and a cylindrical part opened on the surface of the plate. The cylindrical part of the civil engineering material has a truncated pyramid shape, and the top of the cylindrical part has an engaging part. The back side of the plate on which the cylindrical part of the civil engineering material abuts has grooves or spaces toward the plate ends from a part where the cylindrical part abuts on the plate so that, when the civil engineering materials are arranged mutually upside down while abutting on mutual side faces of the cylindrical parts, an engagement receiving part suitable for the engaging part is formed between two civil engineering materials when the two civil engineering materials are placed side by side.
