PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and inexpensive excavation support device for a construction machine. SOLUTION: The excavation support device for the construction machine includes respective angle sensors 7-9 for detecting a boom turning angleα, an arm turning angleβand a bucket turning angleγ, respectively; a control switch 18 operated when the bucket tip 60 is located on a target excavation surface D; an arithmetic means receiving the operation of the control switch 18 to compute a position of the bucket tip 60 using the turning fulcrum of a boom 4 as a reference based on each turning angle and to set an excavation track along the target excavation surface D; and a control means for automatically controlling the operation of the boom 4. The control means changes the boom turning angleαaccording to the change of the arm turning angleβso that the bucket tip 60 moves on an excavation track when the arm 5 is operated in an excavating direction, and changes the boom turning angleαaccording to the change of the arm turning angleβso that the bucket tip 60 moves a predetermined height above the excavation track when the arm is operated in a reverse direction with respect to the excavating direction.
