A fuel cell comprises a membrane electrode assembly having an anode electrode, a cathode electrode, and an electrolyte membrane inserted between the anode electrode and the cathode electrode. The fuel cell further comprises a gas diffusion layer having a hydrophobic property, an anode channel plate having a through-hole in the flatwise direction, and a gas channel communicatively connected to the through-hole, all of which are disposed in this order from the side close to the anode electrode of the membrane electrode assembly, and a gas-liquid separation member disposed in one of the groups consisting of the inside of the through-hole, the inside of the gas channel, and the space between the through-hole and the gas channel.
