PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new process for preparing methylthiopyridine which is a production intermediate of tribromomethylsulfonylpyridine useful as a constitution component of photosensitive resins. SOLUTION: The process for preparing methylthiopyridine comprises reaction of a halogenated pyridine with a methanethiol alkali metal salt in the presence of a base and water in a heterogeneous system. The methanethiol alkali metal salt is preferably sodium methanethiolate. The reaction of the preparation process is preferably carried out in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst. The phase transfer catalyst is preferably a quaternary ammonium salt or a quaternary phosphonium salt. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
