PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing image correction while continuously performing image formation. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is configured to transfer images on image carriers 1Y, 1C and 1M being some of a plurality of image carriers 1Y, 1C, 1M and 1Bk to a recording medium on a conveyance body 14 through an intermediate transfer body 8, and transfer an image on the other image carrier 1Bk to the recording medium on the conveyance body 14 without through the intermediate transfer body 8. The image forming apparatus includes a pattern image forming means configured to form a pattern image for image correction on the respective image carriers 1Y, 1C, 1M and 1Bk, and a pattern image detection means 32 configured to detect the pattern image on the conveyance body 14. When continuously performing image formation by a plurality of number of times, the pattern images formed on the respective image carriers 1Y, 1C, 1M and 1Bk are transferred to intervals between recording medium carrying areas to carry the recording medium on the conveyance body 14.
