PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base for an electronic component excellent in heat resistance and air-tightness, and free from lead, and to provide a piezoelectric vibrator. SOLUTION: This base 1 for the electronic component includes a metal shell 10, insulating glass 13 filled in the shell, and lead terminals 11, 12 fixed to penetrate through the insulating glass 13. Backing metal layers 102 composed of respectively Cu layers are formed on a base body surface of the shell and base body surfaces of the lead terminals, and Sn-Cu layers 103 are formed on upper faces thereof. The Sn-Cu layer 103 includes a Cu6Sn5 area 103a and an Sn area 103b. A tuning fork type quartz vibrator piece 2 of an electronic element is joined electromechanically to inner sides 11a, 12a of the lead terminals in the base 1 for the electronic component, and a cap is pressed in to the base, to be sealed air-tightly.
