A method of and device for managing power consumption in an electronic device, the electronic device having a power regulator and a function powered at least partially by the power regulator, the power regulator operable in a low power mode and a full power mode, the method comprising: the power regulator operating in a low power mode; monitoring the current drawn from the power regulator in order to determine if the drawn current exceeds a threshold current level indicating a current limitation mode; and switching the power regulator to the full power mode if the current limitation mode is detected.
