<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute compression coding of image data from pixel image at a higher speed, with a required memory capacity being reduced. <P>SOLUTION: A pixel image is read from a main memory for each small region, which is then divided into planes. For each of planes of the small region, a pixel value of interested pixel is predicted by plane prediction and the like, and a run length value is obtained based on the number of agreements of predicted error value. An intermediate code containing a predicted error value, a run length value, and a starting pixel position representing starting position in a small region of run length value, having a predetermined data length is generated and stored in FIFO for each plane. The intermediate code having the smallest start pixel position is selected and read from each FIFO, which is sequentially subjected to variable length coding to provide a code of single row, which is then written in the main memory. The FIFO from which the intermediate code has been read is updated, and reading process of the intermediate code is repeated until all FIFOs become vacant. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
