PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and highly-efficient ignition device simultaneously performing DC discharge by an ignition pulse and electromagnetic wave irradiation in a combustion chamber in the stage of igniting a combustible mixture. SOLUTION: A first tapered portion 8c having a short portion narrower than a center portion is provided at an end for connecting the ignition plug 9 of a waveguide 8 transmitting an electromagnetic wave from an electromagnetic wave generator 5 to the ignition plug 9. An inductor 11 electrically connected in series is arranged between an ignition pulse generator 14 and the ignition plug 9 so as to approach the outer edge of the first tapered portion 8c.
