The device has a control electronic system (2) with a current control unit. A current limiting resistor (7) is connected in a row to a motor inductance (4) and a motor coil resistance (5) of a motor (6) of the machine or the drive. An electronic switch (8) is connected parallel to the current limiting resistor. An independent claim is also included for a method for starting current limiting of motor current for electrically operated machines or drives.
