[Also in Division C2] Catalyst compositions comprise palladium, iron and alkali metals in the form of compounds or complex compounds which do not contain any chlorine, bromine, iodine, sulphur or nitrogen, and are carried on a support. The palladium may be present in metallic form. Palladium oxide, acetate, propionate, benzoate, acetyl acetonate, iron citrate, lactate, and acetyl acetonate and alkali metal hydroxides, carbonates and carboxylates are mentioned and supports include silica, silicates, aluminium oxide and spinels. The catalysts may be prepared by conventional methods and if desired the palladium salt may be reduced to metal. Allyl acetate is prepared from propylene, oxygen and acetic acid reacted in the presence of the catalyst. |
