<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition which can be used in an ink-jet printing method, can use either a non-polar or weakly-polar material as a functional material, prevents clogging when dispensed, achieves stable dispensing and prevents precipitation of contents of the composition while being dispensed and phase separation when used for forming a film and to provide a uniform and homogeneous functional film formed by using the composition, a method for manufacturing the functional film, a display device such as an organic EL element and a method for manufacturing the display device. <P>SOLUTION: The composition comprises a solvent including at least one benzene derivative, which has one or more substituents and the substituents of which have ≥3 carbon atoms in total, and the functional material. The functional film is formed by using the composition. The display device includes a luminescent material layer, which is formed by using the composition, between two electrodes.
