PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron-based sintered sliding member in which cementite does not precipitate in its structure, and which has excellent sliding properties such as friction and wear, and to provide a method for producing the iron-based sintered sliding member. SOLUTION: Iron powder as the main component is blended with alloy powder composed of 4 to 6 mass% manganese, 3 to 5 mass% iron, and the balance copper by 3 to 20 mass%, and 1 to 5 mass% carbon powder, respectively, and they are mixed so as to form a powdery mixture. The powdery mixture is charged to a die so as to compact a green compact with a desired shape, and this green compact is sintered at 1,000 to 1,100°C for 90 min in a heating furnace regulated to a neutral or reducing atmosphere.
