The method involves determining a position of a parked motor vehicle based on a spatial signal transmitted by a sender module after activation of a sear function at a mobile receiver part by a user. The sender module is provided with a three-dimensional (3D) transmission antenna, and the receiver part is provided with a 3D receiving antenna. A direction and/or distance to the vehicle are displayed to the user on a display at the receiver part based on the determined position. The mobile receiver part is formed as an electronic key for the vehicle.
