<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of poor visibility of a distinguishing mark of a conventional chip type LED when it is formed on an upper surface and rear surface of a substrate, and difficulty in size reduction of the chip type LED when the size of the substrate is increased. <P>SOLUTION: The chip type light emitting diode includes a light emitting diode 1 mounted on an electrode pattern formed on the substrate, a sealing resin 3 for sealing the light emitting diode, and the distinguishing mark 5 for indicating polarity of the light emitting diode.
