PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary electric machine which can be driven by a single inverter and can reduce magnetic noise and ripples. SOLUTION: In the rotary electric machine 1, a first winding group 4a and a second winding group 4b are wound with a phase difference ofπ/6. In the first winding group 4a, respective phase windings are connected with each other and aΔconnection is formed. The second winding group 4b is connected between the phase windings of theΔconnection to form a Y connection. Thus,ΔY compound connection is formed. When a regular three phase AC current is conducted, currents conducted to both winding groups 4a and 4b necessarily have a phase difference ofπ/6. Thus, six-order higher harmonics of both winding groups 4a and 4b are mutually canceled and therefore magnetic noise and the torque ripples of the rotary electric machine 1 can be reduced. The first winding group 4a and the second winding group 4b different in the phases can be driven by the single inverter 5. Thus, system enlargement and cost increase can be suppressed.
