PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die steel with which the cost of a product itself is reduced and further, and a cost required for a die is reduced by prolongation of service life of the die and the reduction in the cost of the die steel, and the production cost can be effectively reduced as a whole. SOLUTION: The die steel has a composition composed of, by mass, 0.15 to 0.30% C, 0.01 to <019% Si, >1.50 to 1.78% Mn, >1.01 to <3.05% Cr, >0.48 to <0.88% Mo, 0.01 to <0.21% V and 0.004 to <0.03% Nb, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities.
